Parallel Perspective

The Quiet Signs You Are Carrying Too Much

Perspective by HPJ — Week 2, Awareness — Parallel Perspective

I set the table the way I always do — plates aligned, napkins folded, a place for everyone. From where they sat, it looked effortless, because I had made sure it always did.

No one saw the version of me that stood at the stove ten minutes earlier, gripping the counter, waiting for my chest to loosen before I could carry the pot to the table.

I laughed at the right moment in the conversation. I asked my daughter about her day, and listened, and meant it. And underneath all of it, some quiet, tired part of me was counting down the minutes until I could finally stop performing steady.

They saw a woman managing a full table with ease. I felt a woman rationing whatever was left of herself, portion by portion, so there would be enough to get through one more evening.

That gap — between what the room could see and what I was actually carrying — had become so wide I had stopped noticing it as unusual. It had just become how I lived.

Reflection Question

What does managing everything actually cost you, that no one else can see?

Let this one sit with you for a moment.

Guided Pause — Exit

Take one long, deep breath. Exhale slowly.

Support the Work

Every woman who begins to find herself makes room for another. When she rises, everything rises.
