About

Perspective by HPJ, a perspective that truly counts, is for the woman who carries everything, who has been told she is too much, and who has been conditioned to stay appropriate. It is for the woman who is awakening, who is becoming, and who wants clarity, depth, and transformation. This is a place for you to find your way back after years of carrying it all, and to become the woman you were truly meant to be.

I believe identity clarity is about women seeing themselves more clearly through the noise. It is the work of dismantling the roles you have performed for so long, so that you live less as a version of yourself and more as who you are. You are not broken; you have only been dimmed under pressure, and every part of you is a facet, not a fragment. That kind of clarity needs quiet, and this is where it can begin.

About The Creator

Welcome,

Twenty years ago, I suffered a panic attack. At the time, I was juggling long hours, raising children, attending college, and holding a marriage together. So many women carry some version of this, whether they are running a business, building a career, or caring for a family. I kept telling myself it was just one more thing, but one more thing was always many more, stacked one on top of the other. I did not realize I was losing myself deeper and deeper under the weight of it all, and it was one hefty price I had to pay. Still, I learned some things along the way.

The first lesson was that I had to find a way out of the noise, even if only for a few minutes at a time, because my breathing and my sanity depended on it. Those stolen moments with a pen and a page became necessary to my survival. My journals and the pages of an unfinished book were where I began reclaiming my state of mind and my space to become.

Since the age of three, words have always been a big part of my life. I can still remember dancing and marching around the house singing, Miss Mary Mack, Mack, Mack, all dressed in black, black, black, with silver buttons, buttons, buttons, all down her back, back, back… As a girl, I was always singing, and when I was not singing, I was reading every book I could get my hands on. Performing was another joy of mine, especially narrating in school plays, where I could give words a voice. By the time I was ten, I was writing fluidly in my diaries, and somewhere in the background, I always carried a dream of building something of my own.

I had my own room back then, a space where I could simply be, to read, sing, dance, and create whatever came to me. Then I became an adult, and that space grew crowded. I was simply being myself, building, wanting more, and living my life fully, but the people and the environment around me could not hold all of who I was. Through years of survival, both my speaking voice and my writing voice were interrupted, and the girl who once sang and filled her diaries was buried deep beneath everything I was carrying. I was not privy to Virginia Woolf until a women’s literature class in college, which became a privilege to me. Her essay A Room of One’s Own spoke of a woman needing a space of her own to create, yet I did not understand what it meant for me until I had lost it. Today, it has never meant more, because the room is not only a place. It is the space within us as women that gets crowded by everyone and everything else. So what is one to do? For me, this journal is my return to that girl. It is me reclaiming my love for words, the dream of building something of my own, and the space I lost, one page at a time, and becoming the woman I was truly meant to be. I hope it helps you begin to reclaim yours.

The entries you will find here come from my journals and the pages of that unfinished book. Some were dated and some were not, because I did not always have the time, so I share them by theme rather than in order. Let this journal become your break, a stolen moment of your own.

You can move through these pages at your own pace, and you will never be rushed. If an entry suggests one breath, please take as many as you need, and come exactly as you are, in whatever shape you find yourself today.

Everything written here is born from my lived experience and from the pages of a book I have been writing for years, a few lines at a time, in whatever stolen moments I could find. Each entry is carefully crafted with you in mind, as a deeply reflective perspective on identity clarity and how you move from survival to becoming. Settle in however feels right, whether with a hot cup of coffee, a warm mug of tea, or whatever helps you slow down. Leave the weight of everyone else’s expectations behind, and stay as long as you need. The woman you think you lost is waiting to be reclaimed.

Warmly,
HPJ

How It Works

“How It Works” it is. Here’s the list for that section:

  • Every Sunday evening at 8 PM Eastern, a new entry is revealed. Each one is about a five-minute read, short enough to take in fully, because I know your time is valuable and you do not need one more thing left unfinished.
  • Each week, the entry offers a different perspective on the month’s theme, and by the end of the month, all four perspectives come together in full bloom so you can see the theme from every angle.
  • If you would like to go deeper, each month has a worksheet that helps you sort it out in your own words.
  • For an even fuller experience, the workbook explores the month’s theme from beginning to end.
  • Every Tuesday morning, a short question called the Tuesday Ping carries the week’s thought forward and keeps you reflecting until the next Sunday reveal.
